This Schumacher Instant Portable Power Source has an on/off switch that activates the jump start mode. A built-in charger for automatic charging of the internal battery; just connect an extension cord to the plug to recharge (cord not included). The battery status LEDs tell when a battery is charged or needs to be charged. The Sure-Grip Clamps fit both top and side-mount batteries. The cable will stay flexible in the coldest weather. I purchased this due to the quality reviews and have not been disappointed.
I charged the unit overnight and it was amazing. I've started several cars including my sisters jeep that had been sitting with the battery dead over a month. It started the Jeep in a few seconds. We kept the engine going for 10 minutes and then stopped the car. Without it being connected to the starter/Shumacher power source, the battery was so dead that it didn't even have enough power to turn on the dome light!
You keep this in your trunk and when you want to jump a car, you bring it next to your battery. Attach the positive and negative connectors to your cars battery and it starts in an instant. It is amazing. It also has a meter to show if it needs to be charged and it has a bright light that can be turned on when it's dark outside, especially during a rain storm.
If you have a child in college or at home that drives, this is a must have. With so many dangerous situations with young college girls, this can bring them piece of mind. Obviously it's for anyone; wife, husband, or child.
It also has connectors that you can run electrical appliances for various times. It's not a generator so it will be for fairly short times but it will charge a cell phone very easily.
I don't know of a product that I've been so pleased with recently. A great price, for a great product.

I bought the 400 unit. There are apparently TWO larger (more expensive) units. The manufacturer uses the same manual for all 3 models and referrences many items, meters, lights, switches, etc. that are not on this unit. I will carry this as an emergency unit and have no idea when I'll use it. Hopefully, it will be a good source of backup power when needed.
I'd like to thank AMAZON for posting these reviews as I had almost bought a smaller unit but another reviewer had told of inadequate power and recommended this unit. Thanks All.
